Intern Program

Athena Theatre is looking for interns in the following departments, see below. Appropriately trained students or candidates looking to gain experience should apply. The right candidate will be innovative, self-motivated, reliable and have experience or training in the department they’re applying. These positions are based in New York City.

Lighting Design: Seeking three interns for tech week of our upcoming production of I CARRY YOUR HEART by Georgette Kelly at 59E59 Theaters, March 25th thru March 30th, 2019. The lighting interns will assist our Lighting Designer with the load-in (4 hours on March 25th), hanging and focusing lights (8 hours March 26th and March 27th).

Scenic Design: Seeking three interns for tech week of our upcoming production of I CARRY YOUR HEART by Georgette Kelly at 59E59 Theaters, March 25th thru March 30th, 2019. The scenic interns will assist our Scenic Designers with the load-in (4 hours on March 25th), build and set dressing (8 hours March 26th and March 27th).

Properties Design: Seeking two interns beginning February 25th through April 14th of our upcoming production of I CARRY YOUR HEART by Georgette Kelly at 59E59 Theaters. The properties intern will assist the production in organizing the props list, shopping for props and managing our props table both in rehearsals, through tech and at each performance. (Estimated 4 hours each day)

Sound Design: Seeking two interns for tech week of our upcoming production of I CARRY YOUR HEART by Georgette Kelly at 59E59 Theaters, March 25th thru March 30th, 2019 (Estimated 4 hours each day). The sound design intern will assist our sound designer during tech week.

Projection Design: Seeking two interns for tech week of our upcoming production of I CARRY YOUR HEART by Georgette Kelly at 59E59 Theaters, March 25th thru March 30th, 2019. (Estimated 4 hours each day) The sound design intern will assist our projection designer during tech week.

Stage Management: Assist the stage manager in scheduling, setting up the rehearsal studio, programming cues and possibly working run crew during the run of the show. This position begins February 20th and ends on April 14th, 2019. (Estimated 6 hours each day)

Marketing: Manage social media pages (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram), develop more likes and follows, establish new relationships with similar companies and artists. Some experience with Photoshop is a plus. The ideal candidate would attend our play readings, playwright sessions and rehearsals so they could create content with photos and videos for original posts and make use of Live functions across all platforms. The bulk of this position can be performed remotely. Any in person photography and videography can be negotiated to work with the intern’s schedule.

Fundraising: Assist in planning fundraising events, mailings, crowd funding, annual giving and in-kind donations. This position can be performed remotely to fit within the intern’s schedule.

Literary: Read new plays, seek emerging playwrights, research alternative places where playwrights may be found and assist in planning the monthly play reading series. This position can be performed remotely to fit within the intern’s schedule.

Grant Writing: Research grants, which fall in line with our mission, budget and goals; assist in editing applications and attending grant-writing workshops when possible. This position can be performed remotely to fit within the intern’s schedule.

This internship is unpaid. School credit is available.
